Oui On Peut
Dan and Karen went to see Joan Baez on November 6. Joan’s voice is still as pure as her heart, but she was tired from celebrating election night. She sings with a back-up band now, and two of the members of that band also sing in a Zydeco band down in New Orleans. A video is posted on You Tube of their performance of a catchy little tune that one of them wrote–”Oui On Peut” (Yes We Can). We love it!

Baez was in town for a two-evening booking at the Birchmere. She was staying in a hotel in Alexandria the night of the election, and got so excited when the results were announced that she ran out to celebrate, still in her bathrobe. Evidently the streets of Alexandria were quiet, so she jumped a cab to Lafayette Square, and joined the crowd outside the White House. If you click through the photos in the Washington Post article, you can see her beaming in her zebra-striped robe…her face says it all. It’s been a long time coming, but we have lived to see the dawn of a better day. We hope.
